Students all across the Ohio Valley are now back in school and as many kick off the new year one local school is starting by making a splash.
More than 200 students from Our Lady of Peace Catholic School gathered at Heritage Port as a way to celebrate their new school theme, Make A Splash.
What they weren’t expecting was who would be in the water. Their faces lit up as, Father Dennis, skied past.
“We got on the docks and he came by jet skiing and that was a pleasant surprise,” eighth grader Adam Marquart says.
Seventh grader, Libby Murrin says,”I didn’t even know that he could water-ski. I knew that he could do a lot of other things but I didn’t know he could do that.”
While it might have been all fun and games on Friday the message behind the theme is important all year long.
“We just want to instill in them that you’re a student but you can truly truly make a difference in someones life,” Our Lady of Peace Principal Maureen Kerr says.
Students who achieve that are recognized with a make a splash award each week.
