Ohio Valley Medical Center (OVMC) announced Wednesday that they have joined the James Cancer Network at The Ohio State University, offering patients the expertise of 160 doctors who all specialize in different types of cancer treatment.
This is the first major service agreement between Ohio Valley Health Service and Education Corporation and Ohio States Comprehensive Cancer Center since joining forces with The Ohio State University Wexner Center back in June.
OVMC said as part of the affiliation, they will now have access to targeted treatment and the latest clinical trials as well as access to leading cancer experts in improving prevention, detection, and treatment of those living in the Ohio Valley suffering from cancer.
“We want to see patients remain here at OVMC, but provide that backup that we can provide from those 160 cancer experts that exists up at Ohio State University at the James Cancer Hospital,” said Dr. Michael Caligiuri, CEO of James Cancer Hospital.
Officials with OVMC said their program offers a wide range of services to patients suffering from cancer, from diagnosis through their treatment.
Patients who come to OVMC for treatment will start to see the new partnership in effect immediately, as a member of the radiation oncology team from The James Cancer Network is on staff to help patients through their struggle.
