Pittsburgh Man Identified as Body Pulled from Boat Dock Along the Ohio River


Wheeling Police confirmed Thursday that the identity of the man whose body was pulled from the Ohio River near a boat dock off Wheeling Island wa Paul Kochu, 22, of Pittsburgh.

Kochu has been missing from Allegheny County in Pennsylvania since December 2014.  Officers have notified his family.

Kochu was found over a week ago when Wheeling resident Dave Davies noticed something stuck on his boat dock.

When the Ohio/Marshall County coroner arrived on scene, the initial examination concluded that the body was a man’s body. Kochu’s body was sent to Charleston, WV for identification and an autopsy.

UPDATE: Body Pulled from Ohio River Likely Stuck in Debris for a Week

After an extensive autopsy and through dental records it was determined the body found on March 19 was Kochu.

WTAE-TV reported Kochu was a Duquesne University School of Nursing graduate. His mother said he had recently completed orientation at Allegheny General Hospital, where he was working in the intensive care unit.

Officers reported the cause of Kochu’s death is pending toxicology reports.
