Police: Alcohol Appears to be Contributing Factor in Fatal Crash

Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers are investigating a fatal two-vehicle accident that occurred on State Route 26, near milepost 27, in Monroe County.

According to police, the accident happened just after 8:00 p.m., Wednesday in Sunsbury Township. Officials with the Ohio State Highway Patrol say a 2003, Ford F-250 driven by Richard Lee Kinney, 49, of Jerusalem, Ohio drove left of center and struck a 2006 Pontiac Vibe driven by Mary L. Riley, 85, of Beallsville, Ohio.

Both Riley and Kinney were sole occupants of the vehicles. Riley died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, while Kinney was not injured.

Police say alcohol consumption appears to be a contributing factor in the crash.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
