The Belmont County Major Crimes Task Force discovered a large stash of cash and an enormous amount of cocaine in two local hotel rooms rented by one man from out of town. Now that man’s in jail, and the evidence is in the lock-up.
It all started last night with a call to 911 when a caller said there was a disturbance in a Belmont County motel.
In the end, officers found 292 grams of cocaine and $9,000 in cash.
They found all this in two rooms in two separate motels, both rented by 44-year-old Sharod Nickelson of Warren, Michigan.
“Having a second room to fall back on or a stash room or whatever, this just shows. Majority of the time, the ones we get with the money and the drugs are not from here. They’re from out of town. They come in, they set up shop, they’re selling the drugs to our people locally,” said Sheriff Dave Lucas.
Nickelson is charged with two counts of possession and two counts of trafficking.
Because of the amounts and the seriousness, his bond is set at $540,000.
The cocaine amounted to almost half a pound, which is said to be worth about $20,000.
Police say having rooms in different motels is not unusual.
