The Belmont County Sheriff’s Department is warning people not to be taken in by a scam artist calling people, telling them they’ve won a huge prize.
Chief Deputy James Zusack says the scammer has been telling people they’ve won the Publisher’s Clearing House Sweepstakes.
The scammer then tells them to send a “processing fee” in the mail, and he also asks for personal information on the phone.
Chief Zusack says the department has received numerous complaints about this scam.
Their advice: just hang up.
