Power Restored in Elm Grove After Tractor Trailer Crash

UPDATE: 10:45 a.m., Friday

Officials with AEP say power has been restored to all customers affected by Friday morning’s tractor trailer accident in Elm Grove.

A tractor trailer crash on Stone Church Road near the old state police barracks has cut off power in Elm Grove.

The accident has knocked out power in Elm Grove from National Road to Washington Avenue. Eight traffic lights are out.

Officials with the Wheeling Police Department say the driver of the truck is believed to have suffered a medical emergency and was taken to a nearby hospital.

According to police, the driver began to sway around the Exit 4 off-ramp, crossed into the grass, across the EB on-ramp, eventually breaking through a fence and severing a utility pole on Stone Church Road.

Officials with AEP say nearly 3,700 people are without power. AEP plans to have power restored for most people by 10:45, but say about 50 people in area of Stone Church Road will be without power.

Triadelphia Middle School, Steenrod Elementary, Elm Grove Elementary and the Ohio County Board of Education are among those without power. School is resuming as usual, according to school officials.

Police urge drivers to use caution while driving thru intersections and to treat the intersections as four-way stops.
