Powhatan Family Puts on Dazzling Christmas Light Display Every Year

Kevin and Teresa Speece have been decorating their Powhatan Point home for more than two decades.

It’s hard to miss it when you’re driving down Steinersville Road, with 11 Christmas trees in the yard, and much more.

You’d imagine with decorations like this, it would take weeks to put up. “One whole day, we got up at 8, and we quit at 8 at night and then it took us a little more time the next day to finish it,” the Speece’s said.

They’ve got Mickey and Minnie Mouse in the window, snowmen, wreaths and bows. Their 11 Christmas trees, set up like a mini-tree lot, dance with music. They’ve been picking up items to make the display bigger and better each year. “Day after Christmas when everything is on sale,” Teresa said.

The Speece’s started to follow in the footsteps of Teresa’s mom. “Her mom always liked decorating. We did it every year. And we keep getting bigger and bigger, more or less for her,” Kevin said.

But now it’s their way of enjoying a holiday tradition together. “It’s just fun. We just don’t buy for each other for Christmas so we just do that instead. We just like to make people happy, driving by and looking at it,” they said.
