As the presidential election nears, candidates are making their rounds to different cities across the country to hold rallies and attend fundraisers.
Just Wednesday, Presidential hopefuls Hillary Clinton and Ted Cruz were in the area, but with their visits comes a lot of security and extra police patrols.
The Wheeling Police Department had a busy day Wednesday with Ted Cruz’s visit to the friendly city from securing the venue to assisting with the motorcade.
The department was first contacted by Senator Cruz’s advance private security team with a detailed summary of what they would like the police department to do.
The officers than take it upon themselves to look at any possible things that could go wrong.
“Every person depending on political nature brings different issues with them if they are a controversial person than we have to prepare for protesters or things like that. In this case with Senator Cruz after the detail was done he request to meet all of the people who assisted in his protection,” said Phil Redford, Special Operations Commander Wheeling PD.
Lt. Redford went on to say that Wednesday’s visit went very smooth and Senator Cruz was very polite and appreciative of all of the officers hard work.
