A press conference was held Friday morning at the Vagabond Kitchen, in Downtown Wheeling.
The purpose was to invite everyone to a special launch party, as part of the First Friday’s in Wheeling event, on September 4th from 6-10PM at the restaurant’s McLure Hotel location.
The launch party kicks off a fundraiser and statewide tour to help restaurant owner, Matt Welsch, achieve crowd support in moving the eatery to a new location and continuing to help reinvent the Friendly City, “We’re really excited, the ‘Kickstarter’ video and kickstarter, a crowd funding website, campaign are going to be a great way for us to get the Vagabond message out to a much larger audience,” Welsch said.
Michael Biela, Marketing Assistant wit the Wheeling/Ohio County Convention & Visitor’s Bureau said the Vagabond Chef Tour is a great way to spread the word about the good things happening in Wheeling to the rest of the Mountain State, “This is a very exciting opportunity for the city of Wheeling. With Matt going throughout the state on his next ‘Vagabond Chef Tour’ it’s going to be a great way to showcase all that’s going on in Downtown Wheeling.”
Katie Welsch, wife of the Vagabond Chef, said the experience has been a whirlwind. The two started running the restaurant while living out of state, but it was something they knew they wanted to do in an area they treasure, “Actually being able to be home in Wheeling and be able to like, us that to generate revitalization in an area that we love is really something spectacular.”
The tour across the Mountain State will last 10 days and Welsch will capture it using a Go Pro camera, provided by the Wheeling/Ohio County CVB. If you attend the launch party and donate to the restaurant’s efforts, you’ll be given some special favors which could include free cookies for a year, naming rights to portions of the new restaurant, and more.
A $25 donation is requested to attend the event and a new promotional video will also be screened during the event.
