Monday was the third anniversary of the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Connecticut. On December 14, 2012, 20 students and six staff were fatally shot inside their elementary school.
Since that day, security in schools across the country has changed. Principal of Montrose Elementary School, Julie Hedge, said the responsibilities of teachers have changed as well.
“The angels are crying today with the 3rd year anniversary of Sandy Hook but our jobs changed on that day, the way we practice our drills, our training that we have received from our county, and from the state. Everything changed on that day,” she said.
Throughout the year, Montrose has practices drills on their own and also has county issued drills. In the latest one, they got all students and staff out of the building in just one minute.
