Every great high school football game features sportsmanship, participation, achievement, rivalry, knowledge, and youth aka SPARKY and that’s what Bellaire and Martins Ferry were playing for Saturday afternoon at Nelson Field. And you know the rivalry’s a big deal when Air Evac Lifeteam flies in the game balls for Coaches Steve Andres and Dave Bruney.
It was the Purple Riders who would land in the end zone first as Andrew Hython got Ferry on the board from 1 yard out making it 6-0 Riders in the 2nd.
Hython would have quite the ballgame as he took another hand-off and cut through the Bellaire defense and down the sidelines before finally being dragged down by D’eondre Burney just inside the 10 in the 2nd quarter.
Hython would finish that drive off in the end zone again for the Ferry as the Riders went up 14-0.
Riders would start to pull away before the half as James Edwards aired it out to Cory Bennett and the Big Reds weren’t gonna catch him as Ferry would take a 3 touchdown lead into the break.
The last chance for Bellaire to get back into in the game in the 2nd half came as Mason Ramsey was looking for Dylan Marling but who else but Andrew Hython picked it off and returned it for the score.
Ferry goes onto win 35-7 over Bellaire and SPARKY with stay with the Purple Riders for the third straight year.
