The push for a major road project in Belmont County has taken another step forward.
The St. Clairsville Mall Road Connector Project has been in the works for months, but now the millions of dollars needed to fund it is finally being worked out on a state level.
In October, County Commissioners met with officials from the local Ohio Department of Transportation who recently took the blueprints to Columbus for final approval.
“Its an exciting project, its definitely needed. For anyone that’s out there driving this Christmas, take a look around at all the traffic in and around our retail centers. Within a couple years this road is going to greatly help with safety and traffic flow there. We’re excited about the possibility of getting that funding,” said Commissioner Mark Thomas.
Thomas added that once the funding is in place, they’ll looking into designing and engineering the new section. Their goal is to begin the second phase of construction on this project in March 2017.
