Rape Trial Postponed After Defendant No Shows due to Illness

An unexpected pause occurred Friday in the trial for a man accused of rape in Belmont County.

61-year-old Jay Greenwood was expected in court Friday morning, but did not show up to the courtroom.

According to Judge Frank Fregiato, the trial has been postponed until next week due to the defendant having an illness, which is contrary to other reports he did not show up and police were looking for him.

Greenwood is charged with two counts of rape and one of gross sexual imposition.

Judge Fregiato says the trial will resume on Tuesday.
