Riots, Fires at West Virginia University Saturday Night

On Saturday night, officers of the Morgantown Police responded to reports of street parties, which included riots and fires throughout Morgantown.

As the night went on, fires were set and the Morgantown Fire Department responded. Furthermore, individuals began pulling down street lights on High Street, throwing beer bottles and other objects, and setting couches on fire.

The cost of damage throughout the city of Morgantown is currently unknown, but will be determined in the next few days.

The events that took place were considered riots because of the dangerous behavior of the individuals. Crowds failed to follow orders of the police to disperse from the locations, which resulted in the use of pepper spray.

Several individuals were arrested.

Officials from Morgantown will continue to review the incidents.
