Over the past few weeks, traffic in the Wheeling area has been a headache for drivers.
The West Virginia Division of Highways is performing road work the week of November 9, which could cause traffic.
The two areas affected are the Monument Place Bridge, commonly called the Hump Bridge in Elm Grove, and on a portion of I-70.
From Sunday to Thursday, the Hump Bridge on U.S. 40 is closed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. so crews from Stantec can perform exploratory core drilling. All traffic is being detoured along Lumber Avenue to the Shilling Bridge.
Crews are also working on Interstate 70, just before the Wheeling Tunnels. In addition, the U.S. 40 entrance ramp to I-70 westbound and the exit to U.S. 250 southbound are closed from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
Drivers heading to Ohio are asked to use Interstate 470.
Unforeseen circumstances or bad weather could change schedules for road work crews.
