Romano Leads Catholic Central Past Wheeling Central


Steubenville Catholic senior running back Stone Romano ran for 152 yards on 24 carries and scored two touchdowns as the Crusaders defeated Wheeling Central 29-19 at Wheeling Island Stadium on Saturday night.   

Romano also booted a field goal just before the half as Catholic Central took a 16-6 lead into intermission. Central quarterback Tony Barber connected with Chris Murphy for the game’s first score.

Wheeling Central’s Isaac Rine completed 12-of-27 passes for 139 yards and two touchdowns to John Burkhalter and Kevin Keane. Brandon Angalich added a one-yard rushing touchdown.

Wheeling Central (1-1) hosts Madonna (1-1) next Friday night on the Island.

Catholic Central (1-1) welcomes St.Clairsville (2-0) next Saturday night.
