A local real estate agent hit a milestone on Tuesday.
Ruth Ann Valiga has been selling real estate for 50 years in Brooke and Hancock County.
Valiga started her career in real estate at Tony Sellitti Realty in 1966. Four years later in 1970, she went to work for Walt Lint Realty, where she sold Real Estate until 1977. It was then that she met Ron Mortimer who was opening his own office and asked her to join as his first agent. After some convincing, she agreed and has been with Howard Hanna Mortimer Realty ever since.

“Oh, it’s just a wonderful place to work the people are so nice and we have had such wonderful agents all through the years,” Valiga said.

In 1999, Mortimer sold his Real Estate business to current Owner/Broker Robin Viola. Under Viola, Howard Hanna has been the No.1 Real Estate company in Hancock and Brooke county for the past 16 years.

During Valiga’s 50 year career, she has sold hundreds of homes and is now selling to the third generation of the families she first sold to. She says her favorite part of job is all of the people she has met along the way.

“I’ve made so many friends,” she said. “I’ve got kids now that belong to me that are not my kids.”

One of those kids is, Howard Hanna Mortimer Realty agent Chrissy Wolfarth, who started her career in real estate because of Ruth Ann.

“I was selling her a house and she was just impressed with real estate and how it worked,” Valiga said. “She called one day and said do you think I could sell real estate and I said I think you would be wonderful.”

“Ever since I’ve started she’s been my mentor,” Wolfarth said. “I love being around her, working with her, hearing her stories, teaching me what she knows and all of the years that she’s done it. She’s just truly an amazing person and I’m blessed to have her as family.”

So what’s next for Ruth Ann?

“I’m never going to retire, when I can’t do it anymore I’ll retire, but I’m not looking forward to that,” she said. “I love to work.”

Ruth Ann is also very involved in her community, she serves on the board of directors for the Salvation Army.

Congratulations and Happy Birthday to Ruth Ann Viliga.
