MARIETTA, Ohio (AP) – The second murder trial of Mitchell Ruble for the 1981 slaying of Washington County Sheriff’s Lt. Ray “Joe” Clark is set to begin this week in southeastern Ohio.
The Marietta Times reports (http://bit.ly/1QkePbU) Ruble has been held at the Washington County Jail in Marietta since October, when his initial trial ended with a hung jury and the state decided to re-try him.
Prosecutors say Ruble fatally shot Clark with a shotgun through the kitchen window of his Warren Township home on Feb. 7, 1981.
Bob Clark, the victim’s brother, said he was told by the Ohio Attorney General’s Special Prosecution team that all of the jurors in the first trial felt that Ruble was guilty of a crime to some degree, but they were uncertain he pulled the trigger.
