A volunteer with the Hancock County Animal Shelter is going above and beyond a typical volunteer’s duties in order to help the animals she loves.

Janis Kell says she noticed that the animals coming into the shelter were being dropped off for a lot of the same reasons.

After watching “Pet of the Week” on WTRF, she decided to write a book called Sunny and Friends to showcase some of the stories of shelter animals.

“We wanted people to read these stories and then maybe think about adopting a shelter pet, and to make people realize that when you choose a pet, choose responsibly. Choose a pet to fit your lifestyle,” said Kell.

Sunny and Friends can be purchased at several local animal shelters, but if you are having trouble finding it, you can contact the Hancock County Animal Shelter for a copy.

All proceeds from book sales will benefit the Hancock County Animal Shelter or the shelter where it is purchased.
