The holidays are a time to give thanks and many people celebrate that by sharing a meal with their family, Riesbeck’s and the St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary Club teamed up to help keep that holiday tradition alive Sunday.
The annual Pack the Truck Event was a hit. It took less than an hour to fill up half the truck with food, which will go to the Richland Township Food Pantry.
Riesbeck’s Store Director Scott Briggs says the generosity of the community began long before the event even started.
“We had five buggy loads already where people had made purchases last night before the official start time,” says Briggs.
Riesbeck’s set out prepackaged bags filled with non perishable food items making it easier for shoppers. The bags ranged in price from 5 to 20 dollars.
The 3 day series was hosted by the St. Clairsville Sunrise Rotary club. Member Jared Sloan believes the food drive helps more families than people may think.
“I don’t think its completely recognized in this area how many folks are having a hard time and how important just coming together with people and enjoying a meal can bring happiness to someone’s life,” says Sloan.
This was the third event this season to help out the food pantry with others being held at Walmart and Sam’s Club.
