St. Clairsville Student To Perform In Macy’s Parade

A local high school student will be performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Joel Panas says nobody prompted him to do it, he just pursued the idea on his own and he got accepted.

He leaves soon to fly to New York and meet with up with 250 other band members to practice for the big event.

Panas plays the clarinet. He has played for about four years.

He’s used to playing in the St. Clairsville marching band, but now he’ll be thrust into the spotlight in a new band with 250 high school students from all over the nation who also got selected for the Macy’s Great American Marching Band. They’ll be playing two songs “It’s Not Unusual” and “Can’t Stop The Feeling.”

“I had to send in a YouTube audition. I just kind of found it on the website and I was just like interested and went from there. I have to go to the airport tonight, wake up for an early flight tomorrow, then we’re just going to kind of hang out and then I’ll be, I have to go to Penn Station and they’ll transport me to my hotel around like 6 tomorrow,” said Panas.

Band members have all been provided with the music and have been practicing individually, but they’ll practice together for several days in New York before the parade on Thursday.
