It was a chilly Monday night in St. Clairsville as the Red Devils welcomed OVAC rival Martins Ferry onto the diamond for some early season softball.
Purple Riders drew first blood as Mercedez McLeod blasted one over the fence in right center. Ferry took a 1-0 after McLeod’s homer in the 2nd.Riders would threaten for more with runners on first and second but Adrian Smith snagged the fly ball at third to end the inning.
Smith’s defense led to offense as she laced a single for the Red Devils and got on base to start the home half of the second.
Smith would move to third and Kaley Garloch would bring her home with the groundball to tie the game at 1.
Red Devils would take the lead as Ari Reager’s grounder would go up the middle and Garloch came around to score for St. C, they go up 2-1 and the Red Devils go on to win 8-1.
Amaya Smith threw a 2 hitter with 16 strikeouts for the Red Devils in the win.
