Christmas Day is two weeks away, and in the Ohio Valley, many organizations provide meals and help for needy families at Christmas. However, most of the dinners and giveaways are on the days leading up to Christmas.
St. Luke’s Episcopal Church on Wheeling Island holds their free public Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day. It’s a ham dinner with all the trimmings plus desserts, and a visit from Santa Claus.
The church needs volunteers to help serve the dinner. It is being held from noon to 3:00 p.m. Doors open at 10 a.m. for coffee and donuts. Santa will arrive at 11 a.m. They are looking for volunteers for every part of the process, from setting the tables, to serving the food and cleaning up afterward.
Anyone who wants to volunteer, even for an hour or two will be welcomed. The church can be reached at 304-232-1123. St. Luke’s has been serving free Christmas dinners for 23 years. They are located at South Penn and Ohio Streets on Wheeling Island.
