Every August, people all across the nation take part in the Ice bucket challenge for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
This year it takes on a whole new significance in Ohio County after former Wheeling Park football coach and teacher Mark Nardone was diagnosed with the disease.
To show their love and support, the staff at Steenrod Elementary, took on the challenge with the help from some of the students.
“I just think it’s amazing when you see the community come out and support and rally around one of their own,” Steenrod Principal Michelle Dietrich says. “Again it’s not something we wanted to happen but it brings people close together.”
Between the students and staff they were able to raise more than $600 which will go to the Mark Nardone Benefit Fund.
