The K-9 Unit at the Steubenville Police Department continues to get support from the community as another donation is made, allowing the department to purchase a brand new K9 cruiser.

The Ben Roethlisberger Grant Fund Foundation through the Steubenville Hilltop Association presented a check for $10,000 that allowed the department to purchase the new cruiser.

K9 Handler Rob Cook says this will greatly help him with his daily operations. “It helps better serve Bono. It keeps him safer and more ready to do his job that he has to do everyday,” Cook said.

He said this new cruiser is equipped with a separate temperature controller for the back of the car where K9 Bono is. It will alert Cook if the temperature gets too hot or too cold with alarms and a pager.

There is also an automatic door opener that will let K9 Bono out if Cook is in trouble.
