The number of shoplifters in Steubenville has almost doubled in a year. Steubenville Police said they responded to 42 calls regarding shoplifting from Black Friday until Christmas Day.

Police said most of their shoplifting calls resulted in arrests, and sometimes more than one person being arrested. Many of the calls came from stores at the Fort Steuben Mall, Walmart or Kroger.

Last year, police only responded to 28 shoplifting calls.
