It was another tough test for the Wheeling Post 1 in the American Legion Baseball circuit as they welcomed Steubenville Post 33 to the I-470 Ballfields Wednesday night. Post 1 was coming off a 4-1 victory on the road Tuesday night in St. Clairsville over Post 159.
Ryan Bernard would be up for Steubenville and fly out to center field but it’d be deep enough for Gino Pierro to tag up and give Post 33 a 1-0 lead in the first.
Post 1 would tie it up in the 2nd then Tyler Reidel would give Wheeling the lead as he singled home Butter Murray to give Post 1 a 2-1 lead after 2.
Steubenville was back at it in the 3rd, Chris Mazar had an RBI double that would knock in Dimitri Collaros and Bernard to put Post 33 back in front 3-2.
Then Nick Scott would extend the lead as he hit a tough grounder to third and it couldn’t be handled and Mazar came around to score to put Steubenville up 5-2 and Steubenville Post 33 would take down Wheeling Post 1 11-4 at I-470.
