With their prom in less than 10 days, students at Indian Creek High School witnessed a very realistic mock DUI scene Friday afternoon. The scene showed a fatal crash and what transpires: from first responders covering dead bodies all the way to their classmates being arrested and taken away via medical helicopter. Law enforcement officers from all over the Ohio Valley have been working very hard this prom and graduation season to educate teens about the consequences of poor decisions.
“If we’re able to change the decision of one kid not to drink and drive, then, the event we just put on is very successful,” said Trooper Tim Zook with the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Wintersville.
Students say these types of programs do effect their decision making.
“What keeps me from drinking in general is, I don’t want to miss out on my future, like my family. I don’t want my family to get the phone call and have the heartache,” said ICHS sophomore Makayla Marco.
All this week Trooper Zook has been going around to area high schools in Jefferson and Harrison counties with a DUI driving simulator to help show the dangers of drinking and driving that way as well.
