Three area elementary schools have been torn down and now the land that they once sat on is up for sale.
The Hancock County Board of Education is holding a public auction on Wednesday at 10 a.m. to sell the three Weirton properties that used to be home to Broadview, Liberty and Weirton Heights Elementary schools.
Hancock County Superintendent Suzan Smith said that all interested parties should come to the auction with knowledge on the properties before placing a bid.
“We are asking anyone interested to please do their own research for instance like with mineral rights this property is going to be sold as is,” said Smith.
Smith said the minimum bids are $240,000 for Broadview, $200,000 for Liberty, and $40,000 for four lots and $50,000 for five lots that Weirton Heights Elementary School once stood on.
All bidders must be physically present at the auction to bid. The auction will take place at the Hancock County Board of Education office inside of the New Cumberland City Building.
