Tito’s Sloppy Doggs in Elm Grove hosted their first ever hotdog eating contest on Saturday.
Contestants were given 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs as they could.
Some took their’s with ketchup and mustard, some with sloppy sauce, and some even used the rip and dip method just like Joey Chestnut and Kobayashi.
Owner Christopher Burress, says the contest was a way to connect with those who have made his business possible.
“It’s great, I love my customers, my customers are everything,” Burress says. “Without them I wouldn’t have a business,so I love interacting with them. It’s bad cause we have our little shop and I don’t get to interact as much cause I’m in the back so I like coming here on Saturdays and interacting with customers. I don’t think there’s any that I know of, there’s no hot dog eating contest in Wheeling so I wanted to be the first, why not?”
The winner ended up eating a little more than 12 hot dogs in the 10 minute window.
He won a $100 VISA gift card donated by Harris Real Estate. Second place won a gift card to Tito’s.
Burress says he hopes to have more hotdog eating contests in the future maybe even having them at one of Wheeling’s many festival.
