AVELLA, Pa. (AP) – Pennsylvania State Police say a freight train has braked in time to avoid hitting an unconscious woman who was lying on the tracks.

Troopers say Megan Moore, of Avella, was found Friday morning in Independence Township, Washington County, about 30 miles southwest of Pittsburgh.

Police say the train’s operators saw the woman and were able to stop before hitting her.

Police were still investigating Friday afternoon. It wasn’t immediately clear how Moore ended up on the tracks.

The woman was taken to Washington Hospital. Her condition wasn’t immediately available.
