It’s a first for the Ohio Valley – a life saving procedure used to control the rhythm of the heart.
Trinity Health System in Steubenville performed the first CryoAblation procedure on two patients on Wednesday. It’s a therapy that uses the removal of heat from tissue to treat irregular heart rhythms.
Dr. Glen Miske says compared to other procedures, this one is a shorter procedure and less anesthetic time, opening the door for more patients to undergo this procedure. He said, “I think it’s exciting and a new technology that my partners and I are bringing to Trinity and to be the first hospital in the region to do it kind of puts Trinity’s Electrophysiology services on the map.”
The procedure takes about an hour or an hour and-a-half, and the patient will stay overnight at the hospital.
