Knowing how to keep student athletes safe is of the utmost importance. On Tuesday evening, Trinity Sports Medicine held a free concussion in sports lecture.
The concussion team presented guidelines on concussion recognition, a sideline management card, baseline testing for the pre-season and Trinity Sports Medicine’s concussion management program.
All of the items are used by Eric Meek, head football coach at Toronto High School, to keep his players safe. “You know it’s very important obviously you know football is a tough sport but the most important thing is the safety of the student athlete and that’s what we are all concerned about,” he said.
A new iPad-based software package designed at the Cleveland Clinic was also presented during the seminar.
The system will provide a more comprehensive fingerprint of the athlete’s normal brain activity and function at baseline and post-injury.
