Truck Flips Over Taking Out Power Lines in Ohio County, WV

UPDATE 4:30 p.m. Power

has been restored for 1,800 AP customers in the Table Rock Lane area.

About half of 190 customers living in the GC & P Road area will have their power restored about 5 p.m., according to Pratti-Miller. Remaining customers can expect restoration about 10 p.m.

American Electric Power (AEP) officials say power outages in Ohio County, WV are being caused by two separate incidents effecting different areas.

According to Carmen Pratti-Miller with AEP, there are two different outages being reported.

The first outage happened about 12:30 p.m. when high winds forced a tree down into power lines, knocking out power for 1,800 customers in the area of Table Rock Lane.

The second outage happened about 2:15 p.m. when an Allied Waste truck carrying sand flipped over, taking out power lines before landing in a creek on GC & P Road. About 190 customers in the Fulton area are without power due to this accident, according to Pratti-Miller.

All available AEP resources are being used to correct the problem in the Table Rock Lane area before heading over to GC & P Road. Those customers can expect power to be restored about 5 p.m., according to Pratti-Miller.

Pratti-Miller went on to say Fulton customers can expect a repair time of three hours once AEP crews arrive on scene.

About 1,200 people are without power after a truck carrying sand flipped over into a creek, taking out power lines along GC & P Road.

Rescue crews had to cut into the truck, owned by Allied Waste, using the Jaws of Life to free the driver who suffered serious injuries, according to Ohio County Sheriff Pat Butler.

The Sheriff’s Office, Ohio County Emergency Management and Paramedics have responded to the area.

Authorities at the scene say the road will remain closed for about eight hours as crews work to clear downed power lines and remove the truck from the creek.
