U.S. Marshals track down Pittsburgh man wanted for attempted homicide in Martins Ferry


U.S. Marshals in Pittsburgh and Wheeling tracked down a Pittsburgh fugitive wanted for attempted homicide in Martins Ferry.

Roy Carswell was wanted by the Allegheny County Police for Criminal Attempt Homicide and Aggravated Assault of a female associate. 

In September, Carswell allegedly struck the victim several times with a machete.  The victim was life flighted to an area hospital, where she survived the attack. 

The U.S. Marshals Service in Pittsburgh gathered information that Carswell fled to Martins Ferry, Ohio. Deputy U.S. Marshal Dias found the suspect’s car at the St. Myers Terrace apartment complex in Martins Ferry. Surveillance was conducted by the Mountain State Fugitive Task Force over the course of a couple days. 

When Deputy U.S. Marshals were conducting surveillance on October 9, they noticed Carswell get into a car and exit an apartment complex. 

They followed Carswell down Route 7 while coordinating with the Martins Ferry Police Department. Carswell pulled into the Star Fire Gas Station at 507 Crawford Street when Deputy U.S. Marshals and a Martins Ferry Police Officer boxed him in and ordered him to the ground. 

Carswell was arrested without further incident and transported to the Belmont County Ohio Jail awaiting extradition back to Allegheny County
