Union Members and Wheeling Nisshin Reach Agreement Over New Contract

Local 1280 union members have voted in favor of their new contract with Wheeling Nisshin.

Union President Forrest Whitfeld says members met from 6 a.m.  until 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night to vote on the contract. In the end, 76 percent  voted in favor of it.

Whitfeld says that the union had two major problems with the original proposed contract, which included a bigger wage gap and a rising cost of out of pocket health care.

Although they weren’t able to lower the out of pocket cost of health care, Whitfeld says they were able to re-work the wage gap issue. They also made a few small gains in the worker’s rights language part of the new contract as well.
