Members of United Steelworkers Local 2911 in Weirton are preparing to meet with their negotiating team on Tuesday, after ArcelorMittal walked away from contract negotiations over the weekend.
On Saturday, the U.S.W. presented what they believed to be a comprehensive contract proposal that addressed each of the items that they were seeking to negotiate.
But Local 2911 President Mark Glyptis said the contract they presented was turned down despite USW negotiators finding ways to save the company money.
“The bottom line is they’re still saving the amount of money that the company is seeking and we’ve been able to do that we’ve been able to do that in a creative well thought out methodology that maintains our benefit for our actives and retirees and still gives the company what they need,” Glyptis said.
He added at this point in time, there is no meeting scheduled between the two sides.
However, Tuesday afternoon, Local 2911 members will be meeting with Dave McCall, their chief negotiator.
