Two homes in Rayland were a complete loss after an early morning fire on Monday.
The fires occurred on County Road 14 in Rayland, near Buckeye Local High School around 4 a.m. The school was not affected by the fires.
One of the structures was occupied while the other was not. The empty structure collapsed shortly after the fire started.
Everyone did get out of the occupied structure safely. As of noon Monday, crews were still on the scene fighting the fires.
Neighbor Marissa Brown described the scene: “I went and got my fiancee, he ran to the next house which is two people live there and he beat down the door until we got them out of the house, and when he got them out of the house both houses were in flames.” Brown’s fiancee was one of the many brave people who rushed into one of the homes to get the people out.
The state fire marshal arrived on the scene on Monday afternoon and will be taking a look at the utilities inside of the homes to determine a cause.
