UPDATE: Officials Continue Investigating Murder in Jefferson County

According to officials with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s office, a murder investigation is currently underway in the county.

Officials received a call about 11:09 p.m. from a man, later identified as Jeffrey Spring, 53, claiming he had shot someone at 3049 Township Road 242, near Austin Lake. The caller said the person, Steve Boyer II, 47, he shot was trying to break into his home, according to authorities.

Boyer was shot twice and died, police said. His body was sent to Cuyahoga County for an autopsy.

Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla said Spring’s story does not match up with the investigation work conducted thus far. He said Spring is being questioned along with people in the area as part of the investigation and that the case will be presented to the prosecutor.

Sheriff Abdalla went on to say that the Spring and Boyer were acquaintances and that Spring was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

Spring has not yet been charged.
