Wheeling city officials on Monday said the dog park at Tunnel Green should open by August.
Director of Public Works Rusty Jebbia said they’ll put the project out to bid this week, have a bid opening in early June, and then council will award the bid.
The contractor will do grading, fencing and gravel pathways, and city crews will extend water service to the dog park.
“It’ll have four watering facilities for the dogs that will be open for them at any time they want,” Jebbia said.
“There will be a gravel path that’ll go around the perimeter of the dog park. The dog park’s going to be broken into two sections. There will be a small dog area which will be about half an acre, maybe a little bit more than half an acre, and then there’s a large dog area which will be about an acre and a half,” he continued.
The park will be named after the Fitzsimmons Family, who made a significant contribution to the project.
