It was a special night to kickoff one of the largest Italian festivals in the country and honor some of the men and women that also help make it one of the best.
WTRF’s Nate Fluharty was the proud emcee for the kickoff dinner of the Upper Ohio Valley Italian Heritage Festival.
This year’s dinner was held inside Wheeling’s McClure Hotel.
We caught up with this year’s Italian American of the Year, who said he was not only extremely honored, but also pretty surprised.
“Wow, just wow, and why!? That was my first reaction when they called me on the phone. But it’s a great honor and I’m just so happy. Its just amazing to me and I’m very honored,” said Dr. Antonio Licata.
Dr. Licata is currently a retired general surgeon from Weirton and a graduate of Follansbee High School.
