There was a long line of people at the Wheeling Post Office Monday morning, waiting to mail out their last-minute gifts for Christmas.
Monday was the busiest postal day of the year, and Wheeling Postmaster Jeff Ames says they will ship 35,000 packages at the Wheeling post office just this week.
He says they had full staff at the post office Monday to accommodate the rush. If you still have packages to send, there are things you can do to make your trip go quicker.
“Of course, having your packages prepared before you get in line is a big plus. Make sure the addresses that you’re mailing the packages to are correct as well. Put as much information in the address as possible. In other words, if you have an apartment number, a suite number, or so forth, make sure that’s added as well” said Ames.
Ames says that if you would like your Christmas cards to arrive by Christmas Day, those need to be shipped out Monday or Tuesday.
While Monday is the busiest postal day of the year at the post office itself, Ames says Wednesday and Thursday will be the busiest days for delivery.
