For the first time in more than a decade employees for the village of Bellaire will see an increase in their paychecks.
The village decided on the pay raise after losing some of their best trained employees to higher paying jobs elsewhere.
Bellaire Administrator Scott Porter said it was time to show the water, street, and sanitation departments along with police and other village employees the appreciation they deserved.
“We had to sit down and decide between the mayor and I and the department heads, ‘What are we going to do to keep these folks?’ So we researched and of course money is the motivator of everything. It’s not a lot but it at least shows our appreciation for the hard work that they do,” Porter said.
The pay raises come out to a dollar fifty more for full-time employees and a dollar more for part-time employees. The raises will be retroactive to April 1.
