The Ohio Department of Commerce Bureau of Wage and Hour Administration has determined that VV Steel Corp owes 34 employees in Monroe County a total of $241,967.36.
The employees have not been paid for their work since May.
VV Steel will be given seven days to arrange payment to the workers, or the department will bring legal action against the company to recover the amount owed.
Commerce Director Jaqueline Williams ordered an expedited investigation of the wage claims first brought to the department on July 7 of this year.
The department’s determination was based on a review of payroll records, time cards, and other documentation provided by the employees.
The employees involved have been sent a letter from the Bureau of Wage and Hour explaining the determination and the action to follow. This letter will give the employees the ability to return a waiver that will permit the bureau and the attorney general’s office to represent the employee in any necessary negotiations with VV Steel Corop.
The employees also received a notification of career counseling and job search assistance available through the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, and provided contact information that will help them to determine if they are eligible for financial assistance.
