CLARKSBURG, W.Va. (AP) – A Clarksburg man has been sent to prison for fracturing the face of his disabled girlfriend, who had to wait for him to fall asleep before she could crawl to a neighbor’s home for help.

The Exponent Telegram (http://bit.ly/2gDJOlw ) reports that 26-year-old Johnny Lee Workman was sentenced Wednesday to two to 10 years in prison for malicious assault following the November 2015 attack.

Authorities say Workman threw a ceramic statue at the woman’s face inside their home and then disabled the telephone and locked the door so she could not get help.

Because she has cerebral palsy and is unable to walk without crutches and braces, the woman crawled to get away.

The victim had asked the judge for leniency, saying Workman’s actions were solely rooted in his alcohol addiction.
