WalMart Stores Help Teachers Pay for School Supplies

Being an educator or teacher can require taking time and money out of your own pocket, but on Tuesday, teachers at one local school were recognized for the time and dedication they put in every day.

WalMart awarded 20 teachers at Hills Elementary with $50 gift cards to purchase classroom supplies that will help students during the school year. The gift card distribution is part of the company’s Teacher Rewards program that ensures that teachers across the country have the supplies they need.

“A lot of teachers and educators give back a lot of time and their own money, so WalMart recognizes that, and so they are able to give them back a little bit of what they’ve given their students as well,” said Renita Lavendar, the Human Resources Manager for WalMart Logistics.

More than 5,000 WalMart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Clubs are eligible to select one local public school. The Teacher Rewards program is an extension of WalMart’s ongoing support of local education initiatives that help students better prepare for their future. The money will help teachers pay for paper, folders, binders, pencils, crayons, markers and other classroom supplies.
