Weirton’s annual Community Thanksgiving dinner is filled with community love and spirit again this year at the Greater Weirton Senior Center. The dinner has been happening for decades now, and volunteers come back to Weirton year after year to help serve, even if they have moved from the area.
The Ministerial Association is able to put on the free dinner every year through sponsorship from local churches, businesses, as well as city officials. The dinner is for everyone from every walk of life: young, old, rich, poor, and they even deliver meals to shut ins and pick people up who can’t drive.
“It gives a sense of community and unity in our community,” said Elder Michael Smith, of the Weirton Ministerial Association. “Weirton is a tight knit community. We’re a family based people, and we love to come together to serve each other, and to be together with each other and to be able to celebrate and give thanks together.”
