West Liberty Comes Up Short in MEC Tournament

Regular-season champion Shepherd brought West Liberty’s baseball season to an end here on Friday, handing the Hilltoppers an 8-4 setback in the second round of the Mountain East Conference tournament at Epling Stadium.

West Liberty (28-21) battled back from an early 4-0 deficit to trim the margin to 4-3 heading into the seventh inning but the Rams (38-10) plated four runs with two out in the top of the ninth to break the game open.
The Hilltoppers got a run back in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t keep the rally going.
Tim Mirandy doubled and singled to lead the WLU attack while Jared Carranza and Anthony Pierro each rapped out a pair of base knocks.
Bub Haddox cracked a solo home run and Jordan Meyer singled and drove in a run for the Black and Gold.
