Ranked No. 1 for much of the season, the West Liberty University men’s basketball is climbing back up the NCAA Division II Top 25 ladder.

Coach Jim Crutchfield’s Hilltoppers (24-2) jumped three spots to No. 4 on Tuesday when the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) released its weekly NCAA Division II Top 25.

West Liberty, which has already clinched its sixth consecutive conference title, is making its NCAA Division II record 79th appearance in the national Top 25 after clinching its sixth consecutive outright conference championship with a 92-70 rout of West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday.

This week’s poll only includes games played through Sunday so the Hilltoppers’ 10th straight win – Monday’s 97-81 victory against Glenville State – will be part of next week’s considerations.

Florida Southern (25-1) pulled in all 16 first-place votes and held onto the No. 1 spot for the third consecutive week but there was plenty of shuffling behind the Moccasins as five of the Top 10 teams from last week’s poll suffered losses.

Bellarmine, Ky. (24-2) moved up to No. 2 with Lincoln Memorial, Tenn. (25-1) barely edging out West Liberty for No. 3. Minnesota State-Moorhead (29-2) took over at No. 5.

Augustana, S.D. (26-2) dropped from No. 2 to No. 6 after having its 19-game winning streak snapped by Winona State, Minn. Tarleton State, Texas (24-2) checked in at No. 7 with Wisconsin-Parkside (24-2), Barry, Fla. (21-3) and Mount Olive, N.C. (25-2) rounding out the Top 10.

Having already clinched the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye in next week’s Mountain East Conference tournament, the Hilltoppers close out the regular season at Ohio County rival Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. at the McDonough Center.
